FODR Woodcock Walk

Saturday, January 31st Friends of Dragon Run Members Event

Join FODR Citizen Science Committee Chair Maeve Cocker for the 2026 Woodcock observance and walk. Members will meet at FODR’s Bulman property just before sunrise (around 6:00 AM) to listen and watch for male woodcocks as they perform their sky dances. These display flights are one of the magical natural sights. ”He gives buzzy peent calls from a display area on the ground, then flies upward in a wide spiral”. This event was a big success in February of 2025 with many sightings. After sunrise and the end of the woodcock mating ritual, Maeve will lead a bird walk. The event will likely last until 9:00AM. Because the property has limited parking, the event can accommodate the first ten who register. Registration will be available on the home page of the FODR website (Dragonrun.org) on January 17th. After the ten slots are filled, we will continue taking registration for a waiting list. Maeve will provide an update a few days before the event with the directions and arrival time. Email citizensciencedragonrun@gmail.com if you have any questions.
