How many birds can you identify in one day while staying within a 17-foot circle?

That's the challenge of the Big Sit. Folks will be participating in Big Sit circles around the world, so come join the fun.  The Refuge will be setting up its circle once again on top of Fones Cliffs. Last year we identified over 50 species of birds.

Beginners are welcome! Experienced birders will be around to offer guidance. There's an early morning session from 6 am to 8 am that requires a reservation to keep things quiet for the birds, but all are welcome without reservations from 8 am until 7:30 pm.

The Big Sit Open to All
 

When: October 11 from 8 am to 7:30 pm. (come whenever you want to and stay as long as you can)
Where: The Fones Cliff Unit located on the gravel  access road at 850 Carters Wharf Road, Warsaw, VA (GPS: 38°03’48.4″N 76°55’06.7″W)
Requirements: The event is open to all.  No problem if you are new to birding. There will be plenty of people to help you.  
What to Bring: You don’t have to bring anything to participate.
Your eyes and ears are enough. Extra spotting scopes and 
binoculars will be available to borrow.  But please bring whatever you like for comfort, whether it be a blanket or chair, binoculars or scope, field guide, water, snacks, etc.
