The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society is pleased to offer a free Zoom presentation entitled “Virginia’s Ferns” on Thursday, Oct. 15th at 7 pm.

Enjoy this informative talk from the comfort of your home as we explore the diversity and identification of Virginia’s ferns. Our speaker will be Dr. Jordan Metzgar from Virginia Tech.  Dr. Metzgar is a fern-loving botanist and the Curator of Virginia Tech’s Massey Herbarium as well as a teacher of plant taxonomy.

Ferns are a plant that nearly anyone can identify but specific identification may be elusive. The Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula has about 27 different native ferns and all are beautiful and look lovely in nature as well as in home gardens. The Commonwealth has about 70 species of ferns and Jordan will introduce many to us and how to identify them. This will be a great introduction to our native ferns.
